The SPRINT trial demonstrated that intensive blood pressure control led to fewer unfavorable outcomes on average than standard blood pressure control. However, this is unlikely to be true for every patient. Here we demonstrate a method to predict, in advance, the likelihood that a patient will respond to intensive blood pressure control. This personalized approach allows physicians to target intensive blood pressure control to a smaller group of patients, thus maximizing benefit and minimizing risk.
